34,000 Flybuys points are worth $170 if redeemed at Coles, Kmart, Officeworks etc. Alternatively, you can convert them to 17,000 Velocity points.
This offer is only recommended if you choose the BYO modem plan because if you accept the one provided by Optus you’ll have to pay it off when you cancel or switch providers.
You should also avoid staying for more than six months as the price will increase from $69/mo to $109/mo. Ideally, you should switch to a new provider no later than during your fourth month after your points have arrived.
Changing internet providers is easy and if you check the NBN page on OzBargain there are always plenty of new customer promotions available. Taking up one of these introductory offers every six months can save you a lot.
You can also earn Flybuys points on Optus mobile plans but these generally aren’t recommended as mobile plans are largely a relic of a bygone era. Most people today would be better off with a 12 month prepaid SIM which can often be had for under $150.
If you’re only interested in this offer for the savings and not the Velocity points, you might also consider Finder’s deal that gets you a $200 Visa gift card after three months of Optus internet service.

Is anyone having issues signing up? The page won’t accept my expiry dates for my passport etc.. call centre hopeless
Would I be considered a new customer and receive bonus points if I was with Optus 2 months back and had received the bonus points then?
They only mention that it has to be a “new service” so I suspect you would be fine. However, it’s always a good idea to have them confirm your eligibility over live chat so you have proof.
