1,500 Flybuys points on Visa gift cards at Coles

Earn 1,500 bonus Flybuys points on $100 and $250 Vanilla Visa gift cards in-store at Coles. You can use these prepaid Visa gift cards almost anywhere.

Buying the maximum of five $100 Visa gift cards would earn you 8,000 Flybuys points (as you also get 1x point per dollar spent) for a total of $29.75 in purchase fees. That’s $40 worth of Flybuys points or 4,000 Velocity points.

Here are the details:

  • Runs from Wed 24 Sep to Tue 30 Sep 2025
  • Only available in-store at Coles
  • Limit of five gift cards per Flybuys account
  • $5.95 fee on $100 card, $7.50 fee on $250 card
  • Excludes Birthday and Thank You Visa gift cards
  • This offer is open to everyone and does not require activation
  • Points are usually credited in 1-3 days

How it works

Scan your Flybuys card at the checkout when purchasing $100 or $250 Vanilla Visa gift cards in-store at Coles between 24 Sep and 30 Sep 2025 and you’ll earn 1,500 bonus points on each of them up to a maximum of five times.

You won’t know immediately if you’ve earned the points but they usually appear in your account the next day at around 5-6pm. It’s normal for the points to take a few extra days to arrive or for only some to credit at first.

Both the $100 and $250 Visa gift cards earn the same fixed bonus of 1,500 points so most people tend to just buy the smaller denomination card as it has a cheaper purchase fee ($5.95 vs $7.50).

In addition to the 1,500 bonus points, you’ll also receive the standard 1x Flybuys point per dollar spent so a $100 Visa gift card will actually earn you a total of 1,605 Flybuys points whilst the $250 card gets you 1,757 points.

Note that you can only earn the bonus points a maximum of five times. That’s five times in total, not five per denomination or five per day.

Whilst this offer isn’t quite as good as the recent promotion on Coles Mastercards that awarded 33% more points on gift cards with even cheaper purchase fees, it’s still not bad as the points you earn are worth more than the fees you have to pay.

It’s certainly much better than every single offer Woolworths have run this year on prepaid Visa, Mastercard and Eftpos gift cards.

Warning: Make sure you open up and check each Visa gift card immediately after purchasing to ensure that it hasn’t been tampered with. Look for scratched off digits on the card number and CVV. See here for more information.

    1. As far as I know that’s still possible. However, older variants (expiry 2029 or earlier) of Vanilla Visa gift cards do not support PINs whilst the newer ones (expiry 2030) do and at Coles you have to provide signature verification if you don’t enter a PIN which can make those sorts of purchases quite challenging. At Woolworths you can just skip the PIN and not have to sign but they have more restrictions on what you can buy (e.g. you can’t purchase other prepaid Visa, Mastercard or Eftpos gift cards, Woolworths Group gift cards etc).

      1. What should I do, If I intend to use this at Coles without getting ask to provide signature verification? How can I add a pin, prior to using it to pay for a gift card?

      2. If you have one of the newer cards (2030 expiry) then you should be able to set a PIN for it on the balance check website.

      3. I always have issues with checking balance – system errors message. Does it happen to you? Thanks

      4. It does not work reliably for me as well. Sometimes trying it on a different device can help.

  1. Can you buy the five gift cards at the same time on the first day or does it have to occur over multiple days. Could they all be in one transaction?

    Reply

    1. Whether you buy them all at once or across separate transactions or days makes no difference. The only thing is that you won’t earn the 1,500 points more than five times.

  2. Hey mate, can these be used to purchase apple gift cards online through the Qantas Marketplace?

    1. I don’t believe Vanilla Visa gift cards have ever worked on Qantas Marketplace. Vanilla/Coles Mastercard gift cards did for some time but it’s been almost a year since they also stopped working.

    2. Are these susceptible to the brute force checking the way TCN cards are/were? Do they come in sealed packets?

      Reply

      1. TCN gift cards were particularly vulnerable because of an issue on the TCN website. These gift cards use a completely different system.

That being said, over the years we have seen a few reports of people buying tampered Vanilla Visa/Mastercard gift cards so you might want to open them immediately after paying to confirm that the CVV is present and that all sixteen digits of the card number are there. Also, whilst BIN attacks (brute forcing different card number, expiry and CVV combinations) don’t seem to be a common occurrence with these gift cards any more, I’d still recommend spending them sooner rather than later just out of an abundance of caution.

      2. I have had about 18 of these cards as well as the Coles Mastercards tampered with.
Very difficult to get your money back All the money was drained .

  3. Can’t link the ones expiring 2030 or later to PayPal, so be careful which expiry date you buy if that’s important to you

  4. Anyone have any great ideas on what these could be used for?
Keen to pick some up but not so keen on having them sit around while I think of what to use them for.

  5. Hi there,
My standard points has arrived, but not the bonus. Is that normal? I bought 5x$100 gift cards on Wed. Thank you…

    1. It’s normal. Flybuys points have many virtues but arriving in a timely and logical manner are not among them. Give it another day or two.

  6. Today i bought 4 of the $100 per this promotion at my local coles and noticed 2 of them have been tampered with. The last 4 digits of the number and the CVV have been scratch off . I have heard similar stories like this with these cards and never thought it could happen to me.

The service desk wouldnt help and directed me to contact Coles customer care

Does anyone who has had a similar experience know how long this process will take? And whether it would even be worth trying to use the compromised cards for in store purchases given these cards aren’t PIN enabled ?

    Reply

    1. Sorry to hear. I believe contacting Coles customer care is indeed your best option. You’ll need to send them photos of your receipt and the tampered gift cards. You can also deal with the gift card company directly but that’s often a slow and tedious process so you might only want to do that as a last resort.

I haven’t dealt with Coles personally but I have seen others do so with tampered gift cards and a refund was provided within a week or two.

And whether it would even be worth trying to use the compromised cards for in store purchases given these cards aren’t PIN enabled ?

You can try but I suspect that the scammers would have also reset the magnetic stripe.

      1. Thanks kindly for your reply @Freepoints. Thats good to know that dealing with Coles is a lot quicker. I also agree the scammers would have destroyed the magnetic stripe.
