3x Qantas points on Amazon, Woolworths, Airbnb, Bunnings and hundreds of other gift cards on Qantas Marketplace

Qantas Marketplace now gives you the option of purchasing most gift cards with money, not just with points as was previously the case. This means you can earn 3x Qantas points per dollar spent on a variety of gift cards that wouldn’t ordinarily accrue points, such as:

You can find the full list of eligible gift cards by going here and looking for the cards that display a cash price alongside their points price. The only ones that you can’t earn Qantas points on are prepaid Visa, Eftpos and Mastercard gift cards.

Is 3x points even worth it?

Whilst 3x Qantas points may not sound like much when compared to the 10x Qantas points you can earn from the weekly promotions at Woolworths and Coles, this method does have some advantages over those other offers.

For example, this is essentially the only way you can earn points on Amazon, Bunnings and Harvey Norman gift cards as you won’t find any of those cards in the weekly supermarket points offers. There’s no use holding out for a better offer if it’s never going to come.

Also, unlike those in-store gift card offers, this one doesn’t restrict how many cards you can buy and you don’t have to worry about heading to the supermarket only to find they’ve sold out of the cards you’re after.

Qantas Marketplace has recently started to run some gift card points offers of their own, however, so far they’ve only been willing to offer 4x Qantas points (an extra 1x point per dollar) on the most coveted gift cards.

If you have an urgent purchase to make, it may not be practical to wait several months for a better offer to come along. For example, Woolworths has run just one points promotion on Airbnb gift cards this year and only the $100 denomination was included.

If you’re not in any rush and you know that the gift cards you want will eventually be included in better offer then by all means feel free to wait. However, if you need a gift card today, 3x Qantas points per dollar is certainly better than nothing.

How long do the points take to arrive?

The $50 Bunnings digital gift card I purchased was delivered by email within minutes and the Qantas points were credited to my account three days later.

It’s also worth noting that you will only receive the advertised points per dollar spent on gift cards irrespective of any other bonus points offers you may have access to. The extra points that Points Club and Points Club Plus members receive on other Qantas Marketplace items do not apply to gift card purchases.

  1. Thanks for the heads up! Did you get the Qantas points instantly on the $50 bunnings giftcard?

    1. Not yet. My account page on Qantas Marketplace shows the purchase as having earned 150 points but from memory, Marketplace points take a week or so to credit.

Update: The points arrived three days after my purchase.

      1. You should be able to stack the wish card though, right? 3 x points through Qantas market place, then the additional points when you use your woolworths rewards card 😀

        Reply

      2. Correct. You’ll still qualify for all the points you normally would at Woolworths when paying with a WISH gift card.

      3. Sorry for asking, do you mean the regular rewards point I get for the shop I then do at Woolies/Big W , BWS where I pay with the gift card, right?

        Reply

      4. That’s right. When shopping at Woolworths, Big W, BWS etc you’ll still earn all the same points even when paying with a WISH gift card.

  3. Can you use airbnb gift cards on previously booked accomodation. Kind of like how you can with uber?

    1. If you are a Points Plus member you will get promo emails saying that you will get 9x points. Nowhere in the promo email does it say gift card purchases do not attract the 9X points but as the Editor has pointed out, that is the case. This is the all too frequent deceptive marketing conducted by Qantas. They are the masters of the fine print.

  4. Can WISH gift cards be used to purchase other gift cards in-store during 20x point promotions?

    1. Unfortunately, you cannot use gift cards issued by Woolworths to purchase other gift cards.

      2. I also bought wish cards with the prepaid mastercards last week, however they do not appear to be accepting them this week. I am now getting the error: Payment has been declined, please contact Qantas Frequent Flyer Service Team for more details.

      3. What gift card denomination did you try to purchase? It seems to work much more reliably when buying smaller value cards (e.g. $100) rather than large cards (e.g. $500).

  5. Do I still earn QF points using my Westpac altitude credit card when I purchase a woolworths gift card? That is, this offer gives you an additional 3 points for every dollar on top of what you would get if you bought groceries with your credit card ?

    1. I would expect so. It should just be treated by your card like any other Qantas Marketplace purchase.

    1. Move the slider all the way to the right. You can do this before you add it to your cart or when checking out.

      Reply

    1. No. As a general rule, the only gift cards with purchase or activation fees are prepaid Visa, Eftpos and Mastercard gift cards you can spend anywhere, but those just happen to be the only gift cards Qantas won’t let you buy with money (only points).

  6. re airbnb gift cards, lots of negative comments on reviews for airbnb gift cards on qantas marketplace about not being able to use overseas. To be sure, If I am an Australian resident, purchasing in Australia, can I redeem airbnb gift cards on airbnb accommodation in USA

    Reply

    1. You can only redeem Australian Airbnb gift cards onto an Australian Airbnb account but you can still use them to book stays and experiences overseas.

  7. Just be careful to read the conditions for each card before purchasing. Many of them can’t be used online.

  8. trying to double dip and use last weeks mastercard vanilla gift card to buy airbnb on marketplace and it has declined, are you not allowed to use

    Reply

    1. You can do that but it seems to work more reliably when you buy smaller denomination gift cards (e.g. $100). For whatever reason, Qantas Marketplace is more likely to decline the Mastercards if you try to purchase a $500 gift card.

      1. So I did manage to purchase an Airbnb gift card for $500 with the Vanilla pre paid. Then I tried again immediately after to purchase another and it kicked me back. So tried again the day after and it worked straight away. So they either must limit you to how many purchases you make daily or they didn’t like using two gift cards in a short space of time.

    2. The wish card is a quick and easy way to boost points especially as I was planning to buy groceries at woolies anyway. Points credited the next day.

  9. I bought a $250 Woolworths physical gift card on 20 June, Three days later I get an email questionnaire asking me if I am enjoying my purchase – it was still in the mail. Almost a month later I still haven’t received the 1000 FF points in my account. I made an email enquiry and after a delay received a reply with ” We kindly ask you to allow time as points earned may take up to 6wks to apply on the account from the date of purchase or dispatch.” I am fast coming to the view that I won’t bother with Qantas Marketplace anymore as they are just too much trouble. Basically incompetent and unhelpful. I have never had a satisfactory gift card purchase experience from them.

  10. Is it worth getting a woolworths card on qantas then use that card to pay a gift card at woolworths that’s worth 20x? or will they not accumulate?

  11. Are the Woolworths or wish cards ever included in the 20x points promotions? Thinking it may be worth getting the Woolies one for my everyday shops.

  12. We love these for the extra denomination restaurant cards. If you are planning a splurge dinner (ie $500+ bill) or picking up the tab for a big group of friends then it is very difficult to do 5-6 $100 transactions (it seems to only be the $100 denomination that are included in the everyday reward promotions).

  13. Hi Freepoints. Do you know if you use an Airbnb gift card, and then book Airbnb through Qantas website, does the 1 point from Qantas still apply? (I know referring websites don’t allow payment by gift card). TIA.

    Reply

    1. You can still earn the standard 1x Qantas point per dollar even when paying with Airbnb gift cards. Or at least that’s been the case for bookings I’ve made.

  14. I think the offers that Woolies makes for buying gift cards might work out a better deal.

They’re offering a 3% discount on giftcards if you use their app to buy and they just had a bonus offer where I got 1400 woolies points on a $200 card that cost $194 discount and then it is counted as super makert spend for 3 amex points / $

If you have a QF earning card you’ll likely get 2 points for the spend to buy the gift card from qaQF.

    Reply

    1. Whilst the Woolworths “points plus discount” promotions are definitely better than 3x Qantas points, the advantage of this offer is that it’s always available, it has no purchase limits and it includes gift cards that aren’t available via the Woolworths offers (e.g. Amazon, Bunnings etc).

  15. Which prepaid credit card am i best of purchasing from Qantas to use at woolies to buy shopping or 20x points gift cards? Qstore has 3 x Q points on prepaid credit cards, i will buy with my AMEX wich has a spend $1000 in a single shop and get 10000 Q points plus 1.25x points from credit card. Offer valid for 3 x $1000 shops. So if i brought 3 x $1000 gift cards would i get 3000 Q points from Q website. 30000 bonus QPoints and 3000×1.25= 3750 Q points. Total 36750 QPoints. If i then used 3000 prepaid credit cards to buy $3000 worth of woolies giftcards at 20x points for an additional 60000 W points or convert back to 30000Q points? Total 66750 Q points for a $3000 shop? Great website by the way. Qantas card options seem to be universal physical mastercard, the card network green card digital prepaid mastercard card or the card Network digital prepaid mastercard?

    1. Prepaid Visa, Eftpos and Mastercard gift cards on Qantas Marketplace can only be purchased with points, not cash. None of the gift cards you can earn 3x Qantas points on can be used to buy other gift cards at Woolworths.

      Reply

      1. I thought i had added one of them to the cart with cash but unfortunately not. You are right, thanks. Pitty the 10,000 point AMEX offer only come up after all the Woolies around me had run out of Vanilla Visa’s.

    1. If you’re referring to gift card tampering then I don’t see how that could happen with those sold on Qantas Marketplace given that they’re not accessible to the general public.
