4,000 Flybuys points on $250 Mastercard gift cards at Coles

For the first time ever, Coles will be offering 4,000 bonus Flybuys points on $250 Mastercard gift cards that can be used almost anywhere.

Each $250 Mastercard you buy has a $7 purchase fee but for that you’ll earn 4,257 points worth either $20+ in Flybuys Dollars or 2,000+ Velocity points. It’s a cheap and simple way to either save some money or boost your Velocity balance.

Here are the details:

  • Available from Wed 4 Sep to Tue 10 Sep 2024.
  • Only available in-store at Coles.
  • Limit of five gift cards per Flybuys account.
  • $7 purchase fee on $250 card.
  • Excludes $50 and $100 Coles Mastercards.
  • This offer is open to everyone and does not require activation.

How it works

All you have to do is scan your Flybuys card when buying the $250 Mastercard gift cards at Coles between 4 Sep and 10 Sep 2024. You won’t know that that you’ve earned the points until they appear in your account a day or two later at around 5pm.

The $50 and $100 Mastercards are excluded. You can buy up to five of the $250 cards in total per Flybuys account (not five per day, five for the entire duration of the offer).

This promotion won’t be advertised in your Flybuys app as it comes from the Coles catalogue. All Flybuys member are eligible to earn the 4,000 points and you don’t need to activate anything.

It’s generally a good idea to use these sorts of gift cards as soon as possible as all prepaid Mastercard and Visa cards are susceptible to BIN attacks where criminals brute-force card number combinations until they figure out ones that work.

The odds of this happening to you are relatively low but the longer you leave a card sitting, the higher the chance it could happen. You can get a replacement card if yours is compromised but it can be a slow and time consuming process.

The popularity of these Mastercard promotions means that they’re likely to sell out very quickly, especially for stores in the CBD or inner suburbs. Try to go Wednesday morning or visit a Coles in a less populous area if you don’t want to miss out.

    1. These Coles Mastercards will likely be much easier to find than the Vanilla Visas at Woolworths. That alone makes this offer the winner for me.

      1. My FlyBuys account has updated from yesterday’s purchase of the gift cards, but only 1 pt per dollar, not the 4000 pts. per card. Still coming?

      2. For a couple of months now Flybuys points have been a bit slower to credit. You’ll likely see them in your account tomorrow at around 5pm, though it could potentially take a bit longer than that.

    1. Not in QLD, no. I tried that this morning – both at Australia Post and in person at QLD Tpt. The split payments were not the problem, the cards were not authorised to be used for the transaction. Was a bummer.

    1. Not all stores put the posters up. The important thing is that it’s advertised in the Coles catalogue for that week which it clearly is.

    1. Opening the website in an incognito or private browsing window usually works. Failing that, the number on the back of the card will read out your balance if you call it.

  6. At my local store they had the cards stashed near the service desk. After scanning the 5th one on a self checkout the staff member said I could only buy 2 and took the rest away from me 😢

  7. I spoke to my local store, the lady said they have boxes of these cards, but there is an oversupply.
No wonder there is a 4k bonus on these.

Happy to say I was able to get 10 of these across 2 accounts with no effort.

      1. If you’re in QLD it probably won’t work at Aust Post either. I tried this morning, both at Aust Post and in person at QLD Transport. The split payments were not a problem, the cards just weren’t accepted for the transaction. I’ve heard they work at NSW Transport though.

    1. The two offers are completely separate. You could use one of these cards to pay for your grocery shop and still qualify.
