How to earn Qantas points fast? Wine and gift cards

Two quick and easy ways to boost your Qantas points balance

Are you a few Qantas points shy of being able to book a great reward flight? Need to urgently earn some points to unlock Points Club status before your membership year resets? Not to worry – here are the two best methods to quickly and easily boost your Qantas points balance.

Qantas Wine bonus points offers

Points usually credit within 1-2 days

Qantas Wine are always offering bonus points on various wine products. What’s unusual about these offers is that the bonuses are often so large that it’s cheaper to buy wine and pour it down the drain than pay for a points top-up through Qantas.

For example, buying 10,000 points directly from Qantas would cost you $388 – a cost per point of 3.88 cents. On Qantas Wine, however, it’s easy to find offers that will get you points for around 2 cents each (sometimes even less) and you get the wine as well.

The Qantas Wine website can be a nightmare to navigate but thankfully there are two great tools you can use to quickly identify the best wine bonus points offers:

You can take advantage of each bonus offer multiple times. For example, if you need 12,000 points and the wine only comes with 6,000 then you can simply buy two of them. The checkout page will display the total number of points you’re going to receive.

If you’re placing your first ever Qantas Wine order and spending at least $99, don’t forget to enter the code FIRSTORDER at checkout to earn the 5,000 points new customer bonus.

Qantas Wine also have advisors who can award additional points at their discretion so give them a call before placing your order to see if they can make a good deal even better.

Postage costs vary depending on your location but it’s free if you spend over $300 or if you have Qantas Wine Premium Membership (included free with Points Club, Points Club Plus, Qantas Business Rewards etc).

Speaking of Points Club and Points Club Plus, those memberships come with complimentary Qantas Wine vouchers so even if you’re not a wine drinker you can use the vouchers to earn yourself some extra points.

Whilst buying wine can be a great way to grab some Qantas points in a hurry, it’s not the best strategy to earn the bulk of your points. A good rule of thumb is that you shouldn’t pay more than 1 cent per point given what they’re actually worth.

Gift card bonus points offers

Points usually credit instantly

Woolworths run a bonus points offer on an assortment of gift cards almost every week. The most common offer is 20x Everyday Rewards points which converts to 10x Qantas points per dollar spent, meaning every $100 you spend earns you 1,000 Qantas points.

Gift cards commonly featured in these offers include Apple, Uber, DoorDash, Luxury Escapes, Rebel, BCF and Supercheap Auto as well as multi-retailer TCN and Ultimate gift cards that can be used at hundreds of different brands like JB Hi-Fi, The Good Guys, Officeworks, IKEA, Webjet and more.

We also frequently see offers on merchant category gift cards like the TCN Restaurant that can be used at almost any restaurant or eating place. Prepaid Visa, Mastercard and Eftpos gift cards are sometimes included in promotions but in 2025 they’ve all been shockingly bad value.

The sheer variety of gift cards included in these offers means you’re likely to find something that works for you. For example, if you catch a lot of Ubers then you could prepay your account for the next month and if you know you’ll be buying a new iPhone soon then you might stock up on Apple gift cards.

The best way to find out about current and upcoming bonus points gift cards is right here on FreePoints. We publish detailed guides every week and often reveal upcoming offers before they’re announced. We also have another website (GCDB) that publishes gift card promotions of all types, not just the ones with bonus points.

If you’ve never participated in one of these gift card bonus points offers before, we have a step-by-step guide that breaks down the process. We also maintain a searchable list of all the gift card points offers Woolworths have run in the past six years.

Big W, the online Everyday Gifting store and Qantas Marketplace occasionally run bonus points promotions on gift cards but not nearly as often as Woolworths.

Qantas Marketplace do sell a wide range of gift cards (e.g. Woolworths, Amazon, Bunnings etc) that you can earn 3x Qantas points per dollar on at any time but those points can sometimes take a couple of days to credit.

Just like with wine, it’s important to not get carried away with these offers. It can sometimes make sense to load up on gift cards that you know you’ll use over the coming weeks or months but try not to buy things you don’t need. Also, make sure to follow the rules of each promotion carefully so you don’t end up pointless.

In summary

If you’re in desperate need of a few thousand Qantas points to book a Classic Reward flight or to unlock or renew Points Club status, don’t just go straight to Qantas for a costly points top-up.

Instead, first see if there are any good wine bonus points offers as most of the time this will work out to be cheaper than a points top-up and the points usually arrive within 1-2 days. The Qantas Wine Tracker and Wine Points Maximiser tools make it easy to identify the best value deals.

You should also have a look at the current gift card bonus points offers to see if there’s something there that works for you. If you’re buying them at Woolworths the points are usually instant and these promotions often include gift cards that can be used at all sorts of places.
