The Qantas Travel Money card is a debit card offered by Qantas that doubles as your Qantas Frequent Flyer membership card. With this card, you can earn 0.25 Qantas points per dollar spent in Australia.
As the only debit card that earns Qantas points on a per dollar basis, the Qantas Travel Money card can be a good choice for those who are unable or unwilling to obtain a credit card such as students, pensioners or retirees. As long as you only use it in Australia and can tolerate its flaws (eg. no mobile wallet support and transfers take a business day to process), it can be an effective way to grow your Qantas points balance.
If you’re planning on using this card overseas or to exchange currency, think again. The conversion rate used by the card is considerably poorer than competitors and the card charges extra fees for ATM withdrawals and even a 0.5% fee if you want to load money instantly. Even during a bonus points promotion, the points you earn do not come close to justifying the cost of the currency conversions.
