10x Everyday Rewards points on Mastercard gift cards at Woolworths

Thanks to one of our readers for letting us know about this promotion early.

Earn 10x Everyday Rewards points per dollar spent on $50, $100 and $25-500 Vanilla Mastercard gift cards at Woolworths. You can use Mastercard gift cards almost anywhere Mastercard is accepted, both in-store and online.

Loading $500 onto one of the $25-500 Vanilla Mastercards would see you earn 5,000 Everyday Rewards points for a purchase fee of just $7.95. That’s either $25 worth of Everyday Rewards Dollars or 2,500 Qantas points depending on what you’ve chosen as your rewards preference.

Here are the details:

  • Runs from Wed 20 Nov to Tue 26 Nov 2024.
  • Only available in-store at Woolworths.
  • For variable load $25-500 gift cards, a limit of two per day.
  • For fixed value $50 and $100 gift cards, a limit of five per day.
  • $5.95-7.95 purchase fees apply.
  • This offer is open to everyone and does not require activation.

How it works

All you have to do is scan your Everyday Rewards card when buying any of these Vanilla Mastercard gift cards at Woolworths between 20 Nov and 26 Nov 2024. Make sure you don’t accidentally buy Visa or Eftpos gift cards as this offer is just on Mastercards.

The checkout should state how many points you are going to earn on the screen that appears just before you pay. As soon as you’ve paid, the points should immediately credit to your Everyday Rewards account.

This offer is available Australia-wide and will be found in the Woolworths 20 Nov catalogue for your region. It won’t be advertised in your app and you don’t need to activate anything.

Vanilla Mastercard gift cards are functionally identical to Coles Mastercards if you’ve ever used those before. They can be used in-store and online, though you cannot add them to your mobile wallet (for some reason they seem to work with Google Pay, though).

Swipe your card and then select Credit when paying with a Vanilla Mastercard in-person. If you’re prompted to enter a PIN, whatever you input the first time becomes that card’s PIN for any subsequent transactions you make with it.

As a general rule, it’s a good idea to use prepaid Mastercard and Visa gift cards like these sooner rather than later as the longer you leave one sitting idle, the higher the chance criminals may correctly guess your card’s details and drain its balance (this is what’s known as a BIN attack).

Also, check your gift cards after you buy them to ensure that they haven’t been physically tampered with. Common signs of tampering include scratched off numbers and missing security codes. Compromised gift cards can be replaced or refunded but it’s often a slow and tedious process.

These bonus points offers on prepaid gift cards are always highly popular so make sure you go to Woolworths first thing Wednesday if you want to stand the best chance of finding some.

The best value card

The only Mastercard that’s really worth buying here is the $25-500 card loaded with the maximum of $500 (or thereabouts). The $50 and $100 cards have slightly lower purchase fees but they only earn a fraction of the points.

    1. The last offer on Airbnb gift cards was in February. Woolworths and other stores have had plenty of opportunities to run offers on Airbnb gift cards since then but none of them have. I think those days are behind us, sadly.

  1. Is these cards are better or coles mastercard which will be in on sale from tommorow are better ??

    1. My opinion is that this one is better. We pay $7.95 for 5000 points, which means 0.159 cents per point. With Coles, we pay $5 for 2000 points, which is 0.25 cents per point.

The thing is, I can use TCN etfpos card to buy Coles MasterCard, and I got those etfpos card from Woolworths for the same deal ($7.95 for 5000 points). This makes me rush to Coles tomorrow.

    2. For someone who collects both Velocity and Qantas points both offers are equally good. However, Coles do a much better job of stocking their Mastercards compared to Woolworths so for that reason alone I’d say the Coles offer is the “better” one. I have no doubt in my mind that I’ll find five $100 Coles Mastercards tomorrow but there’s a good chance I’ll go home empty handed when this Woolworths offer starts next week.

    1. Yes, those are the same cards. As mentioned above, whatever PIN you enter the first time becomes the card’s PIN for that and any subsequent transactions.
