Update: the Visa “Thank You” gift cards do earn the 10x points even though they’re not specifically included in the promotion.

Earn 10x Everyday Rewards points on $50, $100 and $25-500 Vanilla Visa and Vanilla Visa Birthday gift cards at Woolworths. You can use these gift cards almost anywhere Visa is accepted both in-store and online.
Each $500 Visa gift card you buy will earn you either $25 worth of Everyday Rewards Dollars or 2,500 Qantas points for a purchase fee of just $7.95.
Here are the details:
- Runs from Wed 4 Dec to Tue 10 Dec 2024.
- Only available in-store at Woolworths.
- Limit of five $50 or $100 cards per day.
- Limit of two $25-500 variable load cards per day.
- Gift card purchase fees apply ($5.95-7.95).
- This offer is open to everyone and does not require activation.
How it works
Scan your Everyday Rewards card when purchasing any of these Visa gift cards at Woolworths between 4 Dec and 10 Dec 2024 and you’ll earn 10x Everyday Rewards points per dollar loaded on the gift cards.
The checkout screen should state the number of points you are going to earn just before you pay. As soon as the transaction is complete, the points should be immediately deposited in your Everyday Rewards account.
Each day of the promotion you can buy up to two of the $25-500 variable load cards and up to five of the fixed value $50 and $100 cards, although I don’t recommend buying the latter (see table below). If this promotion is like the last one, you should be able to buy two $25-500 regular Visa gift cards and another two of the $25-500 Birthday variants all on the same day.
Vanilla Visa gift cards do not support PINs so to use them in-person you will just have to select Credit and then press OK when prompted to enter a PIN. Some retailers may then require you to provide signature verification.
These Visa gift cards also take about 30 minutes to become useable after you purchase them so don’t expect to be able to spend them right away. You can find more information about Vanilla Visa gift cards here.
The best value card
You should only buy the $25-500 Visa gift cards loaded with the maximum of $500 (or thereabouts). Loading less or buying the $50 or $100 cards is not recommended.
Gift card | Purchase fee | EDR points earned | Cost per EDR point |
$50 Vanilla Visa | $5.95 | 500 | 1.2 cents ❌ |
$100 Vanilla Visa | $5.95 | 1,000 | 0.6 cents ❌ |
$20-500 Vanilla Visa (loaded with $500) | $7.95 | 5,000 | 0.2 cents ✅ |

Plenty of these variable cards are currently at my local – odds on they’ll be gone by next Tuesday / before the promo actually starts ….
Does Woolworths keep better stock of these cards compared to the Mastercard ones? I remember not being able to get the variable mastercards at any of the woolworths I visited last week, but saw lots of stock of the Visa ones.
On Monday I went to six Woolworths and Metro stores. Not a single Mastercard variable as per the special.
Next week there’ll be plenty of Mastercard Vanilla cards but not many Visa Vanilla cards available. There reason, not at all surprisingly, is that whatever cards are the current promotion go quick.
Is it possible to recharge the auspost prepaid card with this Vanilla Visa?
I don’t believe so. That only works with Eftpos gift cards as I understand it.
Can you use these Vanilla Visa gift cards with Sniip. I know there was a problem in June 2024 or has it been rectified?
Hi there,
Can these cards be used at Officeworks and subsequently earn flybuys points? Thank you 🙂
I can’t imagine why they wouldn’t work at Officeworks (in-store at least) but you should know that there are better deals available for Officeworks-compatible gift cards (e.g. 10% off Celebration gift cards at Coles or 10% off Ultimate gift cards on the AusPost website). And yes, you’ll still earn Flybuys points when paying with these gift cards at Officeworks.
Thank you for the info!
One more question, can I buy celebration gcs with these visa gcs? Thank you!
Does anyone know if the 10% monthly discount can be applied when buying gift cards?
NO 10% discount
Can these be used to purchase Coles Mastercard?
I believe so.
Offer available at “select Woolworths Metro”… why would they say select, why not all where there is stock?
It may be because Woolworths Metros stock a smaller range of gift cards so they can’t guarantee that they’ll have these particular ones.
Can these be used to make ATO payments ?
They certainly could during the last offer in September.
Was able to get some of the variables from my local this morning. Not alot of stock, but definitely better than the mastercard variables which are still out of stock there lol.
I was able to get some. Scanned my rewards but somehow it’s not showing the bonus points.
disregard – the bonus points have come through.
Asked the staff and was told that it’s 2 total, and not 2 of each variant since it’s part of the same promotion 🙁
Staff don’t often know what they’re talking about. I’ve seen at least three people successfully buy two regular Vanilla Visa variable cards and two Vanilla Visa Birthday variable cards with one account today.
what is the difference between the birthday and normal vanilla gift card?
Functionally they are exactly the same but at Woolworths they’re seen as different products. That’s why you’re able to buy two regular Vanilla Visa variable cards and two Vanilla Visa Birthday variable cards on the same day despite the two card limit.
So first time using these cards, and everyone says they can be used online, does that include for things like prepaid hotel bookings etc?
They can be used online but they’re really not suitable for every type of online purchase. Most online merchants do not allow you to split payments across multiple cards so often you’re limited to just one card and then you might be stuck with a small balance you’ll have to use elsewhere (e.g. at Woolworths).
They make the most sense for online purchases where you can specify the exact amount you want to pay or where instalments are allowed (e.g. paying the ATO).
Sad to see I can use my Coles Mastercard to buy these cards it was blocked today
can or can’t?
Can’t unfortunately – tried it myself.
These cards suck compared to the Vanilla Mastercard. So many online payment platforms do not accept them. Tried to pay strata through DEFT, rates at 2 x councils and health insurance and a couple of other things I needed to pay, all rejected. Did work at 2 other councils and Globird electricity which is good. Never had these issues with the Vanilla Mastercard.
wait 24 hours then try again, mine did not work the same day as purchase bu the next day they were fine. I called up the number and he said on the back of the cardboard packet it says up to 24 hours before funds may be available
Can you use these cards on Qantas wines and hotels? Or to book flights with Jetstar?
Is it likely these visa gift cards could be used to buy BCF gift cards? I need to purchase a bbq and would love to double dip!
