Update: There was an issue with the points not crediting automatically but as of Wednesday evening it seems to be resolved. If you didn’t receive your points, it’s probably not worth calling Everyday Rewards just yet as they’re already aware of the issue and the points should eventually arrive on their own.
Earn 10x Everyday Rewards points per dollar spent on $50, $100 and $25-500 Vanilla Visa and Vanilla Visa Birthday gift cards at Woolworths. You can use these gift cards basically anywhere Visa is accepted.
If you buy a $25-500 variable card loaded with $500, you’ll pay a purchase fee of $7.95 and earn 5,000 Everyday Rewards points worth either $25 in Everyday Rewards Dollars or 2,500 Qantas points.
Here are the details:
- Runs from Wed 4 Sep to Tue 10 Sep 2024.
- Only available in-store at Woolworths.
- Limit of five $50 or $100 cards per day.
- Limit of two $25-500 variable load cards per day.
- Gift card purchase fees apply ($5.95-7.95).
- This offer is open to everyone and does not require activation.
How it works
Purchase any of these Vanilla Visa gift cards at Woolworths between 4 Sep and 10 Sep 2024 and scan your Everyday Rewards card at the checkout to earn 10x Everyday Rewards points per dollar spent. The points should be credited instantly upon payment.
You should only buy the $25-500 cards loaded with $500 as they will get you the most value. The fixed value $50 and $100 cards are not worth buying. You can buy up to two of the variable load cards per day per Everyday Rewards account.
That said, lately Woolworths have been applying purchase limits to each individual card type in an offer so it’s possible you may be able to buy two regular Vanilla Visa cards plus another two Vanilla Visa Birthday gift cards on the same day.
This offer will only be advertised in the Woolworths catalogue and possibly via some posters at the in-store gift card display. It won’t be shown in your Everyday Rewards app. It’s open to all members so you don’t need to activate anything.
Note that the Vanilla Visa gift cards may not be useable until 30 minutes or so after you purchase them. Also, these gift cards don’t support PINs so if you’re prompted to enter one, just press OK. A signature may be required instead.
This promotion will be very popular so try to go on Wednesday morning if you can. It’s also possible that some Woolworths stores may not have restocked the $25-500 variable load Vanilla Visa gift cards from the last offer on them in June.
The Mastercard gift cards in the Coles offer that runs at the same time as this one will likely be much easier to find in stock so you may want to consider taking advantage of that promotion as well.
The best value card
The only Vanilla Visa worth buying is the $25-500 card loaded with $500. The $50 and $100 cards have slightly cheaper purchase fees but only earn a fraction of the points.
Gift card | Purchase fee | EDR points earned | Cost per EDR point |
$50 Vanilla Visa | $5.95 | 500 | 1.2 cents ❌ |
$100 Vanilla Visa | $5.95 | 1,000 | 0.6 cents ❌ |
$20-500 Vanilla Visa (loaded with $500) | $7.95 | 5,000 | 0.2 cents ✅ |

On a Wednesday morning with a cool spring breeze, God will deliver two variable-load visa vanilla cards to my hands.Oh, be swift, my soul, to answer Him, be jubilant, my feet! Our God is marching on.
Claiming this energy
Forget it – the staff will always beat you to those ones.
The customers only get what’s left.
Strange question but would it be possible to purchase one of these vanilla visa gift cards using the very same vanilla visa gift card I purchased in the previous transaction? (Assuming it has been activated)
It won’t work, unfortunately.
Can these be used online?
Yes, though it’s worth mentioning that prepaid Visa and Mastercard gift cards are not always easy to use online as you can rarely do split payments and some merchants will just refuse to accept them entirely.
Yay! Thank you points wizard
What deal is the best option? The Coles or the Woolworths bonus points.
Can either of these be used to pay ATO ?
Thanks
The Mastercards will likely be much easier to find in stock. Here you’re paying a $7.95 fee to earn 5,000 points whereas with the Mastercards you’d be paying $7 to earn 4,257 points so there’s not much difference.
Could you purchase these with the Coles Mastercard Gift cards or vice versa?
That’s very unlikely to work unless either supermarket has recently changed their rules on gift card purchases.
Can I use these to pay ATO? Do I just load them one by one on ATO until it reaches the amount owed?
It worked in June so chances are it’ll work now. I’d just recommend buying one card to test first before committing to buying more. Note also that the Vanilla Visas generally take 30 minutes or so before they’re useable.
You can pay the ATO via the MyGov website or via GovernmentEasyPay. There’s a 0.4% surcharge for prepaid Visa gift cards.
Thanks!!
Yes, you can. There’s $2 fee for each $500 GC so instead pay $500 you have to put $498
Do you know if you can add them to PayPal?
Be mindful of some reviews for the Vanilla card!
Do you know if you could use them to pay for insurance, probably in split payments over the phone (as I doubt they’d permit online split payments)?
Some insurance providers will let you nominate a specific amount to pay, whether that’s online or over the phone. It’s possible, though I’d recommend just trying it with a single card before buying more as you wouldn’t want to be stuck with a bunch.
Thanks 🙂
Can I use these Vanilla Visa gift cards at Woolworths to buy other gift cards, like Events, Airbnb etc?
You should be able to use them to buy most gift cards with the exception of those issued by Woolworths Group as well as other prepaid Visa, Eftpos and Mastercard gift cards. That could change at any moment, though, so you should have a backup plan for your Visa cards in case it doesn’t work.
How often do these kinds of offers typically become available?
Since Woolworths switched suppliers for prepaid Visa, Eftpos and Mastercard gift cards in March we’ve seen an offer about once a month on average.
Thanks I appreciate your quick reply 🙂
Do you know if I can use this card to buy Shopback Supermarket? Since Coles accepts it for the MasterCard, then we may have a better churn.
The ShopBack app is increasingly very picky with what gift cards it’ll let you add. I wouldn’t count on it.
Thanks.
Shopback Supermarket is not on offer anymore,
Is it also possible to buy in two transactions this time?
Yes.
I believe you can add these cards to Google Wallet / Apply Pay. Given these are treated as universal gift cards, couldn’t you use these cards to pay for the Coles $250 Mastercards and get the 4k bonus points offer? Has anyone tried something like this in the past?
I tried a few months ago, not successful.
I tried adding these to Apple Pay and was unsuccessful.
Is there any difference between Vanilla Visa and Vanilla Visa Birthday gift cards? Or is it just a difference in name, and can both be used wherever Visa is accepted?
They are functionally identical.
Can you please explain what “variable load” means? Thanks.
There are two types of gift card denominations: fixed value and variable load. Fixed value cards are those clearly labelled “$50” or “$100” where that’s the amount that you can spend on the gift cards. Variable load cards are labelled “$25-500” because you can choose to load any amount within that range on the cards. Whether you choose to load the minimum of $25 or the maximum of $500, you’re still going to be paying the same $7.95 purchase fee so it makes the most sense to put $500 on the card and earn the most points.
Thanks for your reply. So if I buy a $500 card, can I spend $100 in one shop, $25 in another, $200 etc until I reach the $500 limit? Thanks again.
That’s right. You don’t have to spend the entire gift card balance at once.
Can I pay fines or car registration with the Vanilla Visa GF?
That would vary by state and fine so I can’t give you a definitive answer.
Can I use Woolies gift cards to buy these / Coles gift cards to buy the Coles Mastercard?
Sadly, no.
Doesn’t Woolies have a daily 4000 rewards points cap?
No. Everyday Rewards won’t let you accrue more than $4,000 Everyday Rewards Dollars which is 800,000 Everyday Rewards points. It’s not something you’ll have to worry about. I was able to earn 20,000 points per day buying these Vanilla Visa gift cards during the last offer in June.
”you may be able to buy two regular Vanilla Visa cards plus another two Vanilla Visa Birthday gift cards on the same day”. Are you saying that 1 ER account can get the bonus points if you do this. Or you need 2 ER accounts?
One account. When they last ran this offer in June I purchased two Vanilla Visa variable cards plus another two Vanilla Visa Birthday variable cards on the same day with the one Everyday Rewards account, earning me 20,000 points in total that day.
Would you be trying this out for this promotion? Don’t want to risk it. Many thanks.
I’m not sure I’ll be able to find that many variable cards this time around but I’ll update the article if I do. The checkout screen should state how many points you are going to earn right before you pay so there shouldn’t be any risk in trying it.
Thank you very much for the advice. Have you ever had any issues with using these cards? Reviews online make it sound scary.
They’re not ideal for many things (e.g. most online retailers won’t let you split payments across multiple cards) but I’ve not had much trouble spending them. If you’re unsure, you could buy just a single card to test and see how it works for you before buying more. Woolworths seem to be running 10x points offers on prepaid gift cards about once a month lately so it shouldn’t be too long before we see another.
Anyone have issues with the points being awarded this morning, the points were not showing at checkout.
Checkout? I’ve run around a number of woolworths and none of them sell variable cards, so I haven’t got to the checkout part yet
That’s because the staff working there have beaten you to them.
It’s rare but sometimes there are delays with the points being credited. I wouldn’t worry about it yet as in the past they usually appeared several days later.
Same here
Kevin – I had this same issue just a short while ago. Last time this offer was on, after scanning your everyday rewards card during the checkout process, the 10 x points would show up straight away on the terminal (which I presume is the same with your prior experience). This time it showed as zero. The store manager rang up Everyday rewards and the feedback was the points could take up to 14 days to post.
Yeah same
Same issue in WA. Showing under purchases on app, but no points are awarded. I buy these regularly, first time with the problem, providing the correct card was purchased, I’m sure the end will come in time. I believe Woolworth states they may be up to four weeks in their terms, so that would be a worst-case scenario.
Oops, I bought the wrong one. Apparently the vanilla MasterCard is excluded. Please be aware of this.
Everyday Rewards may still credit you the points if you call them. I’ve seen it happen before.
Woolworths Marrickville wouldn’t allow me to buy two regular Vanilla Visa cards and two other Vanilla Visa Birthday gift cards, the staff said I could only buy two on one account
I just purchased 2 x $500 Cards at Belmont NSW. Points did not show on the checkout or in the app yet. Same thing happened to the man infront of me who was purchasing 2x $500 cards.
Do you reckon I could use these cards to load money into my RentPay account? E.g. Using a $500 card, load $495.05 (taking the 0.99% card surcharge into consideration).
I purchased 2x of the $500 variable cards but did not receive the points from the promotion. I have purchased these in past promotions and would receive the points instantly. I reached out to the support team and was advised of the following:
You have bought GIFTCARD Vanilla Visa VAR 25-500 AUD 507.95 GIFTCARD Vanilla Visa VAR 25-500 AUD 507.95 on 04/09/2024 We have a catalogue promotion which you are eligible for for the vanilla visa variable cards from 04/09/2024-10/09/2024, your points will be loaded 14 business days from the date of the purchase.
Does this work with other targeted promos? For instance I have a “spend $150 this week and get 4000 points” offer – so if I buy a $500 gift card, will I potentially get 5000 points + 4000 points? Thanks!
No. Gift card purchases don’t qualify for those other offers.
FYI just processed 2 cards at Ipswich Riverlink QLD at 16:15 and points were credited instantly. The glitch might have been fixed.
Can also confirm that it’s possible to get 2 visa vanilla and 2 visa vanilla birthday and get total of 20,000 EDR points in one transaction. (16:50 at Brassall QLD)
Bought some cards. All tampered. Now money blocked and email to chase replacements!!!!!
If the gift cards were physically tampered with prior to you purchasing them then it’s on Woolworths to replace them. If I were you, I’d go back to the store you bought them from and politely but firmly demand a refund as they sold you faulty goods.
I went back to store and store manager said that they can’t do anything with them as they can’t cancel or replace the cards. They called Vanilla cards for me and requested to lodge a case. Was given an email to start the claim process with no quick resolution.
I wouldn’t accept that outcome. They are obliged to refund you and they can do it, they just don’t want to.
Thank you for your advice! Took time and bit of to and fro between manager and their manager, but was able to get a refund! Thank you!
I work at Woolworths & we have to give you a refund on the spot. That store is giving you poor effort
Have you or anyone succeeded with this?
Local woolies was sold out by 930am. The guy as self service said a lady came in and brought over $10,000 worth. I said I thought there was a 2 per customer limit. He just shrugged his shoulders and said she did it anyway. I assume she must have just had a bunch of rewards cards then. The next woolies said they had sold 5000 worth in the last hour?
In other words, no matter how many cards you buy, you can enjoy the corresponding activity points. However, some stores strictly abide by the rules and only sell you two cards a day, while others don’t care at all and let you buy as many as you want ?
There is still a limit so the person who bought $10,000 worth must have used multiple accounts. If they didn’t then they won’t receive points for all of them.
How long do the points take to show in your everyday rewards account? I purchased a variable vanilla gift card yesterday morning around 8am. The points have not yet showed. When I purchase other gift cards (ultimate, uber etc) they show up in my everyday rewards account almost immediately.
There was an issue with the points not crediting instantly for those who bought yesterday morning. Just wait as they should come through eventually.
I purchased 8am on Wed and points still aren’t showing as of now.
Can I use the Vanilla Visa Card to pay for my grocery shop at Woolworths?
yes
Can I buy them using other gifts cards?
Which gift cards?
Interesting, yesterday points were credited immediately, but today it did. Same account, same shop, even same staff. Perhaps it fixed.
Bought these on Wed 4th and the points still aren’t showing. Anyone else in the same boat?
same
Same
Silly question but can I pay credit card bill with this card as it’s not technically a credit card.
No
Not in Australia… but if you happen to have a credit card in certain countries where the local banking system hasn’t come up with the idea that people could use a prepaid/credit card to pay another credit card… with all the fees and exchange rates it’s marginal at best
Anyone else still not had the points credited ? I bought 2x $500 on Wednesday 4th, and today Thursday 12th no points still.
I’m still waiting as well.
Still waiting too
I called up Everyday Rewards and was told it may take up to 14 working days to process. Hopefully it will come through by 25th September.
I just received 5000 points?!?!
