Update 9 Oct: Once again, it looks like Woolworths have neglected to restock these gift cards from the last promotion so the $25-500 Mastercards (the only ones worth buying) are almost impossible to find. If your store had no stock, make sure you submit a complaint to Everyday Rewards and Woolworths.
Earn 10x Everyday Rewards points per dollar spent on $50, $100 and $25-500 Vanilla Mastercard gift cards at Woolworths. These gift cards can be used almost anywhere Mastercard is accepted.
For each Vanilla Mastercard you buy loaded with $500, you’ll pay a $7.95 purchase fee but for that you’ll earn $25 worth of Everyday Rewards Dollars or 2,500 Qantas points. It’s a cheap way to earn points on purchases you were already going to make.
Here are the details:
- Runs from Wed 9 Oct to Tue 15 Oct 2024.
- Only available in-store at Woolworths.
- For variable load $25-500 gift cards, a limit of two per day.
- For fixed value $50 and $100 gift cards, a limit of five per day.
- $5.95-7.95 purchase fees apply.
- This offer is open to everyone and does not require activation.
How it works
If you’ve never taken part in one of these promotions, all you need to do is buy any of these Vanilla Mastercard gift cards between 9 Oct and 15 Oct at Woolworths, making sure to scan your Everyday Rewards card at the checkout.
The checkout screen will tell you how many points you are going to earn after you hit Pay Now. Once you’ve paid, the points will be immediately credited to your Everyday Rewards account.
If you’re wondering why this offer isn’t in your Everyday Rewards app, that’s because the weekly gift card promotions are only advertised in the Woolworths catalogue and also sometimes via some posters on the in-store gift card display. This offer is open to all members by default.
Vanilla Mastercard gift cards are better than the Vanilla Visa gift cards we’ve seen in recent promotions as they don’t take 30 minutes to become useable and they also support PINs (whatever you enter the first time becomes the card’s PIN for future transactions).
Mastercard gift cards also have a slightly cheaper fee when paying the ATO compared to Visa gift cards (0.2% vs 0.4%).
As always with offers on prepaid gift cards, expect them to sell out quickly as they’ll be highly sought after. You should go first thing Wednesday morning if you want to have the best chance of finding some.
The best value card
As you can see from the table below, the only denomination worth buying in this offer is the $25-500 Vanilla Mastercard gift card loaded with the maximum of $500. Whilst the $50 and $100 cards have lower purchase fees, they only earn a tiny fraction of the points.
Gift card | Purchase fee | EDR points earned | Cost per EDR point |
$50 Mastercard | $5.95 | 500 | 1.2 cents ❌ |
$100 Mastercard | $5.95 | 1,000 | 0.6 cents ❌ |
$25-500 Mastercard (loaded with $500) | $7.95 | 5,000 | 0.2 cents ✅ |

Do you think it will be possible to purchase these with vanilla cards?
I very much doubt it.
Can we use these online to pay bills? Or are we only allowed to use these at physical merchant terminals?
It depends on the bill. Some may accept prepaid gift cards whilst other may not. I can’t give you a definitive answer, sorry.
Works at VicRoads payed my rego with it. Just can’t do split paymwnt
I have the same question about paying rego with these cards. How did you do it? Does it mean we need to go to vicroad office to pay if we want to use 2 of these cards?
Paid them online. My rego was only around 250 (every 3 months) so worked fine. VICROADS
Is it possible to purchase these card with a Westfield gift card ( eftpos )
Not that I’m aware of, no.
😞 Thanks for your reply
Never used these before.. can they be added to PayPal please?
I believe so.
Successfully added a Vanilla MC to PayPal this morning. After adding, paid a gas bill from the Vanilla, via PayPal.
If I use these to buy things at Woolworths, do I get Reward points on those purchases using this card?
Yes. Paying with these gift cards won’t make any difference.
Is there an overall limit on how many of the variable cards you can purchase during the promotion period?
Two per day so you could buy a total of fourteen with one Everyday Rewards account. In reality, it’s likely they’d sell out before the week was over.
Does my everyday extra perks apply to this e.g. x2 point and 10% discount?
They don’t unfortunately. You’ll still be prompted to apply your discount but it won’t work so make sure you decline.
Are these considered credit or debit cards?
Thanks
Debit.
Does that mean you press savings when making an in store purchase??
Credit.
Can I use a wish gift card to purchase this?
No.
Is there a tampering problem with these or is that only happening with the Visa ones?
There’s always a risk with any prepaid Mastercard, Visa or Efptos gift card that they might have been tampered with, though the chances are low. If you’re worried, open the gift cards up before you leave the store. The telltale signs of tampering are scratched off card numbers and a missing CVV.
Wait, is the point calculator incorrect or they don’t include purchase fees to point earned?
You only earn points on the spendable amount, not the purchase fees.
Can these ones be used for online purchases?
Yes, though keep in mind that most online merchants don’t allow split credit/debit card payments. These sorts of gift cards only really make sense for online purchases where you can specify the amount you’re paying (e.g. ATO payments).
So these can be used to pay ATO debt ?
Last I checked, yes. There’s no guarantee that will always be the case so if that’s how you intend to use these cards I’d recommend testing it with a single card before buying more.
Can I use a Woolworths gift card to purchase this Mastercard card?
No.
What about the opposite? Can I purchase Woolies gift card and pay with this?
It depends where you buy them. I’d expect it to work on Qantas Marketplace or, if you add the Mastercard gift card to PayPal, the Woolworths Gift Cards website.
Would be nice if we could load wise account with them. I need 5k for a overseas trip lol.
Have anyone tried? Or go to an exchange at airport and buy money from another country?
Anything alike this would be very helpful, any tips for this purpose would be amazing!
A few months ago, I was able to load my Wise account with a $250 GC; there was a small surcharge.
That was the only time it worked, I am not even sure why and how it worked. It shouldn’t have as these cards are blocked.
Checked out 3 local stores in Sydney….nada to the Variable ones…either no stock, been put away by staff…or there has been an early bird…!
Alwayd the way now the $50-500 go the first day as points hacking is super popular now. Most stores only stock a couple of dozen as who buys these outside of promotional periods?
Can I use these cards directly to buy Airbnb gift cards on Qantas marketplace ? Or do I have to add it on PayPal ? Thanks
They seem to work somewhat reliably on Qantas Marketplace. Quite a few people have reported that they couldn’t buy a $500 gift card but they could use them to place multiple orders for smaller denomination gift cards. Qantas Marketplace doesn’t support PayPal.
No luck today trying to buy everyday wish on the Qantas Mall – tried $100, $250 and $500 denominations and all declined
Does it work for DEFT? As I know, vanilla Visa card is not working and mastercard sold by Coles works.
Vanilla Mastercards and Coles Mastercards are functionally identical so where one works the other should as well.
I wonder if i could buy those with last weeks luxury eftpos cards ? load $492 + 7.95 fee ?
I used these eftpos cards to buy this weeks uber and teens gift cards, it worked.
I very much doubt it. Woolworths place additional restrictions on purchases of prepaid Visa, Eftpos and Mastercard gift cards.
Is it possible to buy these gift cards and load them into my PayPal balance, then transfer the balance into my back account? Thanks.
You can’t use them to top up your PayPal balance.
Can I use these to buy uber/Spotify gift cards when they are on promo in coles/woolies?
I suspect so unless they decide to add new restrictions.
Can we use the card abroad like I would my normal ANZ debit?
Yes but with a 2.5% conversion fee I wouldn’t recommend it.
I’ve checked out half a dozen stores in my area for these cards in preparation Wednesday, and not one of them had any of the variable load cards. Does anyone know if the general practice is to restock before they go on sale?
There’s a chance they may restock but it seems like Woolworths and InComm (the gift card company) are just hopeless at ensuring they have enough stock for these promotions. The last one was all the way back in early June so they don’t really have an excuse for not being prepared.
Thanks – that’s what I was afraid of 🫤 So frustrating. I guess I’ll try my luck Wednesday morning.
No stock in all four stores I tried this morning since 7am store opening. Wasted time and fuel 😞
No luck for me either, went to a couple of stores this morning and no dice, asked each store and they said they had no stock. Pretty much setting up there stores to fail
Can I buy a Woolies gift card from Qantas marketplace using the vanilla mastercard
This was answered above. I was able to do it the last time we had a Vanilla Mastercard offer in June but by all accounts they didn’t work every time.
The promo is useless with no restock.
I visited 4 local stores in West Melbourne, but none of them had any loadable cards available.
Visited 3 stores in Sydney just to see if they have them. They only had the 50 and 100 but not he variable load one. Would be interesting to see if they put them on display 1st thing tomorrow morning.
Last time Coles Mastercard was kept behind the counter at Coles and I wonder if Woolies will do the same.
Visited over 10 stores over east, south and west Melbourne in the last 3 days. None have the reloadable cards
Can these be added to Google Pay / Wallet?
These gift cards currently don’t support mobile wallets.
Checked some less popular Brisbane Woolies when deal was first posted, then others in the last week. No stock of variable cards of Vanilla Visas, Vanilla Mastercards and EFTPOS giftcards. Why run a promo when there’s no stock?
Complain to Everyday Rewards/Woolworths. That’s the only way we can get them to actually do something about it.
That’s a good idea to get everyone to lodge a complaint with Woolies. Their blank giftcard shelves are getting ridiculous. I can’t even find variable Cafe Choice or Restaurant Choice cards when there’s no discount
No stock in gold coast!
I bought 3 cards this morning before reading the 2 card limit on the variable cards. I only got the 10,000 points for $500 x 2 of the cards no points for the 3rd card. I’ll be back tomorrow for more! Hopefully they’ll still have them.
Surprised you got them, Melbourne seems completely dry of the variable loads.
Got some at another Woolies with my husbands card. Sounds like I’ve been very lucky.
Can I use these to buy the current Coles gift card offers?
Can it be added to Afterpay / ZipPay to pay debits?
As an alternative, I bought this instead.
https://www.giftcards.com.au/ShoppingCart/ProductDetail/CG_card_Mastercard%20Digital_%24250
The benefit is earning points on the credit card and not paying the activation fee.
how many qff points you get? if 1to1 you only get 250 points
if you buy 250 x10 everyday = 2500 = 1250 qff points for small fee
No variable load cards in several stores in Darwin
Anyone know eastern suburbs woolies that have stock of the variable ones?
Asking for Melbourne
Sorry I’ve checked a few, glen waverly, Ferntree gully, boronia, Bayswater, Kilsyth had zero of the variable, very disappointed.
Check stores in poor suburbs! Might sound silly but iv had no trouble finding these in low socio economic areas.
None variable in Perth😵💫. Scam Wool worthless
Do they sometimes take a while to activate? I buy these offers and attempted to use them to pay a bill online, and I’m getting an invalid card number when entering it. I tried the few cards I got this AM.
No variable cards at Golden Grove Woolies, SA. at 8am (they had not been restocked according to staff), but The Stables Woolies (5km up the road) had about 40 of them. So glad I did the detour!
A heap of variable cards available at Emerton and Plumpton in western Sydney.
Can these be used if you go overseas on holidays
Yes, however there is a 2.5% conversion fee I believe. A travel card or something else that has zero fees may be better.
What is the best way to submit a complaint to Woolworths / ER re there being no stock anywhere in Melbourne?
Via contact us on website..I’ve done it
If I buy 10x in one day, does it mean the 10x will only count on 5x cards?
Per the terms and conditions, you are limited to a maximum of five fixed value cards and two variable load cards per day. Any gift cards you buy over that limit won’t earn points.
Huge amount of stock at Kyneton, VIC.
Can you confirm the correct portal to check the balance? https://www.vanillabalance.com/cholder/ doesn’t seem to be working.
That is the correct website, yes. It’s very finicky so you often have to open it on a different device or in a private browsing tab to get it to work. If you still have issues, call the number on the back of the card and use the automated balance check system.
I literally just thought I’d been scammed because I can’t manage to let this website accept my details.
I was suprised that no one alerts media about “dud promotion aka NO stocks across the stores”
Is it possible to use these on Qantas marketplace for gift cards?
Up until a few days ago it was but now they appear to no longer work. It’s unclear when or if this will be fixed.
Anyone saw any in Sydney lately? At this stage I am tempted to hang up a couple of used variable cards back on the rack and make prank videos
I found a bunch in Woolies Marrickville (Sydney). Even the workers were buying with me as well lol
Metro or Illawarra Rd ?
Went to both, none on shelf – and staff and nfi on where they are / if they have any / if they received any
Woolworths – the useless people …
Any restocked ?
I’m facing problem to use it. Do I have to select savings, cheque or credit at the terminal? And the terminal keeps asking me for a key that I do not have. Did someone have the same issue?
Select Credit and then enter a PIN. Whatever you enter the first time becomes that card’s PIN for subsequent transactions. At some merchants (e.g. Woolworths) you can just press OK and skip the PIN altogether.
