2,000 Flybuys points on Mastercard gift cards at Coles

Flybuys

For the first time since January, earn 2,000 bonus Flybuys points on $100 and $250 Coles Mastercard gift cards in-store at Coles. These prepaid Mastercard gift cards can be used almost anywhere, including on payments to the ATO last we checked.

If you purchased the maximum of five $100 Mastercards, you would earn 10,525 Flybuys points for just $25 in purchase fees. That’s over $50 worth of Flybuys Dollars or over 5,000 Velocity points.

Here are the details:

  • Runs from Wed 6 Aug to Tue 12 Aug 2025
  • Only available in-store at Coles
  • Limit of five gift cards per Flybuys account
  • $5 fee on $100 card, $7 fee on $250 card
  • This offer is open to everyone and does not require activation

How it works

Scan your Flybuys card at the checkout when purchasing $100 or $250 Coles Mastercard gift cards in-store at Coles between 6 Aug and 12 Aug 2025 and you’ll earn 2,000 bonus points on each of them, up to a maximum of five.

Coles don’t give you any indication that you’ve earned the points so you’ll just have to wait a day or two for them to appear, usually at around 5pm. Sometimes the standard points can credit days before the bonus points so don’t worry if you don’t receive them all at the same time.

You’ll earn the same fixed bonus of 2,000 points whether you buy a $100 or $250 card so most people tend to just buy the $100 cards as they’re cheaper and you save $2 on the purchase fee ($5 versus $7). However, these offers are very popular so the purple $100 cards always sell out first.

On top of the bonus points, you also receive 1x Flybuys point per dollar spent on the gift cards so a $100 Mastercard will actually earn you 2,105 Flybuys points. Buying five will see your account awarded 10,525 points in total.

Note that the purchase limit for this promotion is just five gift cards for the whole week. It’s not a “per day” limit like you sometimes see with other bonus points promotions. If you need more than five, use multiple Flybuys accounts.

Make sure you check your Coles Mastercard gift cards for signs of tampering as soon as you purchase them and avoid buying any that look like their packaging as been damaged or compromised. More information about these scams can be found here.

As mentioned above, this is the first decent bonus points offer on prepaid gift cards we have seen at any supermarket for over six months so expect it to sell out fast. Your best option is to go first thing Wednesday, ideally at a store in the outer suburbs or a regional area.

Tip: The Gift Card Deals group on Facebook has a post where people share the locations of Coles stores with these Mastercard gift cards in stock. Feel free to check if any stores near you are mentioned and let others know where you’ve found them in stock.

  1. Is there any way I can store the value, such as adding the Apple Wallet?
or purchase anything with value so I can use it later without being stolen use

    1. These gift cards don’t work with Apple Pay (though for some time they did unofficially support Google Pay inexplicably). You can use them to buy almost anything so it’s not hard to find a use for them.

      1. Bummer. It does feel ‘safer’ having the card stored in Apple Pay versus a loose card in a wallet/drawer somewhere.

  2. Can you use these cards to add money to your revolut bank balance. Essentially you would be paying 5$ for 2100 flyby points?

  3. This is a Mastercard product so in theory I can use this card to purchase gift cards in ShopBack/Qantas marketplace etc – Do I have that right?

    Reply

    1. I don’t believe they work on Qantas Marketplace anymore and I recall ShopBack cracking down on prepaid gift card use some time ago. Other gift card stores may let you use them, especially if they allow you to pay via PayPal. In-store you shouldn’t have any issues in most cases.

  4. I just joined flybuys. I am getting offered (with one pass) x10 flybuy points on my foret target purchase. Can I purchased $500 vouchers at Coles, get the points, then use the vouchers towards a ps5 at target (on special for $699) and get my x 10 points?

    1. I was able to use the gift cards to buy woolworths e-gift cards via the shop back app. Then I was able to add the woolwrths cards to my everyday rewards e wallet. Much easier to use as the everyday rewards app keeps a running balance

  5. How do we use these after purchasing them? Do they work like a regular credit or debit card, just tap or swipe to pay? Also, where can we check the remaining balance on the cards?

    Reply

    1. Swipe the card, select Credit and then either press OK or, alternatively, enter any four digits and press OK to make that your card’s PIN. You can check the balance via the website or phone number listed on the back of the card.

      1. The website listed on the card to check the balance—colesmastercardbalance.com.au—is currently not working. This raises concerns about how poorly these promotions are being managed.
Does anyone have suggestions for alternative ways to check the balance? I’d prefer not to call, as sharing the card number over the phone feels risky given the potential for security breaches.

      2. The domain listed on the card redirects to MyBalanceNow.com which is the correct balance check website. You can also call the number on the card and use the automated phone balance check system.

  6. Please don’t harrass the staff when there is no stock guys, just take the loss and move on. This is why they crack down on popular deals like this.

  7. FYI: Yesterday afternoon, the racks were full of purple $100 gift cards. This morning at 7am, zero on the rack. I asked one of the staff members to open the cabinet. There must’ve been at least 150 $100 gift cards hanging up.

      1. Worth more as Velocity points to get that redemption than cashback, but you still come out ahead. It only takes a few minutes to buy them, open up and prepay utilities/insurance.

  8. Is it unusual for the barcode to be a sticker with a split looking bar code and a central clear area with 11 numbers in it?

    Reply

    1. Yes. It looks quite dodgy but that’s how they’ve been manufacturing these gift cards for a while now.

  9. How on earth do we activate these? Where’s the access code please? Website says call before 8pm but voicemail says 6pm.

  10. I just tried using these at the post office to pay a council rate, and when I sent to swipe, it only gave me the option to hit either ‘savings’ or ‘cheque’. I couldn’t find a credit option. Thus I wasn’t allowed to pay my bill. Does anyone have any thoughts, or solutions for me? Sorry to trouble!

    1. Mastercard and Visa gift cards won’t work for those sorts of payments at the post office, only Eftpos gift cards. Is there an online payment option?

      Reply

      1. That’s a shame – there is an option to pay online, but I don’t think it allows split payments considering I have to use multiple gift cards. Oh well, I guess I have to save it for my next big purchase at JB or something. Thanks for getting back to me, and your continued efforts with this site! Appreciate it.

      2. You can make multiple payments via Australia Post Billpay system that’s online. Your council can track it and combine. I do it all the time.

  11. How long do the bonus points take to come in? I got the standard 525 points from Cole’s but not the bonus ones

    Reply

    1. Me too. I had a similar situation in May. I got the base points the next day but the bonus points took 6 days to reach my account.

      Reply

      1. Glad it’s not just me. Sometime I feel like I should track it all a bit better. I am still owed 4000 points from woolies that is taking ages

        Reply

    2. It’s normal for them to take a few days or to credit in batches. Check again at around 5-6pm tomorrow.

All Flybuys points are manually processed by one man working alone in a windowless room with only a fax machine and abacus at his disposal.

  14. Does anyone know if you can purchase gift cards at coles with split payment?
eg. Two debit card transactions for the $100 (+$5 fee) gift card.

    Reply

    1. Split payments at Coles are only possible though standard checkouts when purchasing gift cards. Self checkouts won’t allow you to use two different cards to pay but if it’s one that accepts cash then you can usually do cash and one card (e.g. a $5 note and $100 on card).

  15. Hi there,
I just bought 5x$250 gift cards. I used it straight away but it didnt let me. The instruction says fund can take 24hrs to be available since activation. I guess I’ll try again tomorrow. However, all the security codes look intact and i was able to check the balance. Do you think i’m safe from scammers? Thank you.

    1. How did you try to use the gift cards? There should be no delay between purchase and activation.

      1. I swiped it when doing groceries at Coles and Wws. After entering pin number, nothing changed. And the pin numbers disappear a few seconds like I didnt enter it. What does it mean huhu

        Reply

      2. I also pressed the green button after entering the pin (which is 3 digits at the back of the card) but the the pins stayed there for a while and disappear on the screen as if I didnt enter it

        Reply

      3. The pin isn’t the 3 digit code on the back. You can set the pin(4 digits) to anything you want or set it as no pin if you click enter when the prompt for your pin pops up. I’m guessing it didn’t recognise/allow a 3 digit pin so that’s why it wasn’t working. Try again with a 4 digit pin you create.

      4. Thank you very much. I’ll try again by pressing green button when it promts for pin/key number.

        Reply

      5. I’d recommend using a PIN. At some merchants (e.g. Woolworths) pressing OK instead of entering a PIN works but at others (e.g. Coles) you’ll be required to sign the receipt if you don’t enter a PIN and that’s a bit of a hassle. I always just use 0000 at the PIN for all my Coles/Vanilla Mastercard gift cards.

      6. When i swiped it, it went straigt to the screen thats asking for pin/key. I wondered if i just ignored and pressed green button, would it go through? This is my 1st time using this mastercard

      7. The process is written on the back of the card -:

Card pin is optional. To proceed with no pin, press enter/ok….
