2,000 Flybuys points on Mastercard gift cards at Coles

Thanks to one of our readers for letting us know about this promotion early.

Earn 2,000 Flybuys points on $100 and $250 Coles Mastercard gift cards at Coles. This is one Coles’ most popular gift card promotions because you can use these cards almost anywhere.

For each $100 Mastercard you buy, you’ll pay a $5 purchase fee to earn either $10.50 worth of Flybuys Dollars or 1,050 Velocity points. It’s a cheap and easy way to boost your points balance.

Here are the details:

  • Available from Wed 7 Aug to Tue 13 Aug 2024.
  • Only available in-store at Coles.
  • Limit of five gift cards per Flybuys account.
  • $5 purchase fee on $100 card, $7 fee on $250 card.
  • Excludes $50 Coles Mastercards.
  • This offer is open to everyone and does not require activation.

How it works

Scan your Flybuys card or barcode when purchasing these gift cards at Coles between 7 Aug and 13 Aug 2024 and you’ll earn 2,000 bonus points per card. The points should appear in your Flybuys account the following day at around 5pm.

Both the $100 and $250 Mastercards earn the same bonus of 2,000 points so I recommend only buying the $100 cards. You can buy up to five card per Flybuys account (not five per day, five in total for the whole week).

This promotion doesn’t require any activation as it’s from the Coles catalogue. You won’t see it in your Flybuys app but you’re still eligible to participate.

If you’re buying these gift cards then it’s a good idea to use them as quickly as possible as prepaid Mastercards and Visas are susceptible to BIN attacks where criminals will brute-force card number combinations until they find one that works.

Whilst it’s relatively rare, the longer you leave a prepaid Mastercard or Visa sitting idle, the higher the chance this will happen to you. A compromised card isn’t the end of the world as you can have them replaced but it’s often a slow and tedious process.

Most Coles stores keep a good amount of these Mastercard gift cards in stock but those in the CBD and busy metropolitan areas are still likely to sell out quickly. You’ll usually have the best luck finding cards at quieter stores in the outer suburbs and regional areas.

Points calculator

You’ll receive 1x Flybuys point per dollar spent in addition to the 2,000 bonus points, meaning each $100 Mastercard you buy will actually earn 2,105 points.

    1. Yes, though it’s important to keep in mind that they won’t be suitable for all purchases as most online merchants don’t allow to split payments across multiple cards. These are best used for purchases where you can specify the amount you want to pay with each card (e.g. ATO payments).

    1. Latest reports suggest that they’re still working for ATO payments. Unsure about Immigration, sorry.

  1. Do you get Flybuys points for the $105? I was under the impression we didn’t receive points for spend on gift cards.

    Reply

    1. Yes, you’ll also get 105 Flybuys points because you’re spending $105 on the gift card. This is because all third-party gift cards at Coles earn 1x Flybuys point per dollar spent. They may feature Coles’ branding but these gift cards are actually issued by InComm and not Coles Group so they’re treated like a third-party gift card.

  2. Hi thanks for your post!

Do you know If I buy 4 cards of $250 will i have to pay $28 of active fee or $7?

    Reply

    1. The fees are per card so you will have to pay $28. Anyway, I don’t know why you would want to buy the $250 cards as they earn the exact same 2,000 points bonus as the $100 cards.

  3. Can these cards be used to get cash out at a supermarket? Say using a $100 card at Coles to buy $50 groceries and cash out the other $50? Thanks

    1. Mastercard gift cards can be used online but I can’t guarantee that your rates can be paid with them. I suggest you buy one to test before buying more if that’s your plan.

  4. Didn’t realised the date and bought on 6th August instead. Will Flybuys credit the point like Everyday Rewards due to an honest mistake?

    Reply

    1. You can always try but I don’t believe they’re as forgiving as Everyday Rewards are.

      1. I bought 5 x $100 cards yesterday but points didn’t come through today after 5pm. Any idea how long it takes for points to land in flybuys account? Thanks

      2. It seems like Flybuys are slow crediting the bonus points again. It’s been like this for a few recent promotions. Give it a day or two and they should come through.

    1. The limit is five cards per Flybuys account for the duration of the promotion, not per day. The $250 cards earn the same 2,000 points bonus as the $100 cards so I’d recommend that you just buy the $100s.

  7. Good morning. How do I utilise the 5 X $100 cards for a restaurant bill. Do I request the establishment of I can split the bill or do I request something else?

  8. Got my 500 points for the spend yesturday, but still no bonus 10,000, how long are they taking to credit the bonus lately?

    Reply

    1. This has happened with a few of Coles’ recent promotions. The bonus points usually lag behind the standard points by a day or two.

    1. You can use these gift cards almost anywhere, not just at Coles. They will work to buy most gift cards but not all (e.g. you can’t use one Coles Mastercard to buy another).
