10x Everyday Rewards points on Mastercard gift cards at Woolworths

Thanks to one of our readers for letting us know about this offer.

Earn 10x Everyday Rewards points per dollar spent on $50, $100 and $25-500 Vanilla Mastercard gift cards at Woolworths. These gift cards can be used almost anywhere Mastercard is accepted.

For each Vanilla Mastercard you buy loaded with $500, you’ll pay a $7.95 purchase fee but for that you’ll earn $25 worth of Everyday Rewards Dollars or 2,500 Qantas points. It’s a cheap way to earn points on purchases you were already going to make.

Here are the details:

  • Runs from Wed 9 Oct to Tue 15 Oct 2024.
  • Only available in-store at Woolworths.
  • For variable load $25-500 gift cards, a limit of two per day.
  • For fixed value $50 and $100 gift cards, a limit of five per day.
  • $5.95-7.95 purchase fees apply.
  • This offer is open to everyone and does not require activation.

How it works

If you’ve never taken part in one of these promotions, all you need to do is buy any of these Vanilla Mastercard gift cards between 9 Oct and 15 Oct at Woolworths, making sure to scan your Everyday Rewards card at the checkout.

The checkout screen will tell you how many points you are going to earn after you hit Pay Now. Once you’ve paid, the points will be immediately credited to your Everyday Rewards account.

If you’re wondering why this offer isn’t in your Everyday Rewards app, that’s because the weekly gift card promotions are only advertised in the Woolworths catalogue and also sometimes via some posters on the in-store gift card display. This offer is open to all members by default.

Vanilla Mastercard gift cards are better than the Vanilla Visa gift cards we’ve seen in recent promotions as they don’t take 30 minutes to become useable and they also support PINs (whatever you enter the first time becomes the card’s PIN for future transactions).

Mastercard gift cards also have a slightly cheaper fee when paying the ATO compared to Visa gift cards (0.2% vs 0.4%).

As always with offers on prepaid gift cards, expect them to sell out quickly as they’ll be highly sought after. You should go first thing Wednesday morning if you want to have the best chance of finding some.

The best value card

As you can see from the table below, the only denomination worth buying in this offer is the $25-500 Vanilla Mastercard gift card loaded with the maximum of $500. Whilst the $50 and $100 cards have lower purchase fees, they only earn a tiny fraction of the points.

  1. Can we use these online to pay bills? Or are we only allowed to use these at physical merchant terminals?

    Reply

    1. It depends on the bill. Some may accept prepaid gift cards whilst other may not. I can’t give you a definitive answer, sorry.

  2. If I use these to buy things at Woolworths, do I get Reward points on those purchases using this card?

  3. Is there an overall limit on how many of the variable cards you can purchase during the promotion period?

    Reply

    1. Two per day so you could buy a total of fourteen with one Everyday Rewards account. In reality, it’s likely they’d sell out before the week was over.

    1. They don’t unfortunately. You’ll still be prompted to apply your discount but it won’t work so make sure you decline.

    1. There’s always a risk with any prepaid Mastercard, Visa or Efptos gift card that they might have been tampered with, though the chances are low. If you’re worried, open the gift cards up before you leave the store. The telltale signs of tampering are scratched off card numbers and a missing CVV.

  4. Wait, is the point calculator incorrect or they don’t include purchase fees to point earned?

    Reply

    1. Yes, though keep in mind that most online merchants don’t allow split credit/debit card payments. These sorts of gift cards only really make sense for online purchases where you can specify the amount you’re paying (e.g. ATO payments).

      1. Last I checked, yes. There’s no guarantee that will always be the case so if that’s how you intend to use these cards I’d recommend testing it with a single card before buying more.

  5. Would be nice if we could load wise account with them. I need 5k for a overseas trip lol.
Have anyone tried? Or go to an exchange at airport and buy money from another country?

    1. A few months ago, I was able to load my Wise account with a $250 GC; there was a small surcharge.
That was the only time it worked, I am not even sure why and how it worked. It shouldn’t have as these cards are blocked.

  6. Can I use these cards directly to buy Airbnb gift cards on Qantas marketplace ? Or do I have to add it on PayPal ? Thanks

    Reply

    1. They seem to work somewhat reliably on Qantas Marketplace. Quite a few people have reported that they couldn’t buy a $500 gift card but they could use them to place multiple orders for smaller denomination gift cards. Qantas Marketplace doesn’t support PayPal.

  7. Does it work for DEFT? As I know, vanilla Visa card is not working and mastercard sold by Coles works.

    Reply

    1. Vanilla Mastercards and Coles Mastercards are functionally identical so where one works the other should as well.

  8. I wonder if i could buy those with last weeks luxury eftpos cards ? load $492 + 7.95 fee ?
I used these eftpos cards to buy this weeks uber and teens gift cards, it worked.

    Reply

    1. I very much doubt it. Woolworths place additional restrictions on purchases of prepaid Visa, Eftpos and Mastercard gift cards.
