10x Everyday Rewards points on Vanilla Visa gift cards at Woolworths

Thanks to an anonymous source for letting us know about this promotion early.

Woolworths is back with yet another offer on prepaid cards; earn 10x Everyday Rewards points per dollar spent on $50, $100 and variable load $25-500 Vanilla Visa and Visa Birthday gift cards.

What makes these offers so incredibly popular is that Visa gift cards can be used almost anywhere Visa is accepted (subject to limitations – see below) so you have an opportunity to earn points on expenses that wouldn’t ordinarily accrue them.

For each $500 Visa gift card you buy, you’ll pay a $7.95 fee and earn either $25 in Everyday Rewards Dollars or 2,500 Qantas points. It’s a cheap way of boosting your points balance, especially considering what Qantas points are worth when redeemed on reward flights.

Here are the details:

  • Runs from Wed 26 Jun to Tue 2 Jul 2024.
  • Only available in-store at Woolworths.
  • Limit of five $50 or $100 cards per day.
  • Limit of two $25-500 variable load cards per day.
  • Gift card purchase fees apply ($5.95-7.95).
  • This offer is open to everyone and does not require activation.

How it works

Scan your Everyday Rewards card at the checkout when purchasing any of these Vanilla Visa gift cards at Woolworths between 26 Jun and 2 Jul 2024 and you will instantly receive 10x Everyday Rewards points per dollar spent (excluding purchase fees).

This offer is open to all Everyday Rewards members as it comes from the Woolworths catalogue. You don’t need to activate or “boost” anything to participate. You may sometimes see some posters in-store but often they’re only advertised in the catalogue.

Keep in mind that the purchase limits for fixed and variable load Vanilla Visa gift cards are separate. If you’re interested in the variable load $25-500 cards, remember that you can only buy two per day.

The Mastercard gift card offer a few weeks ago was extremely popular so try to buy on Wednesday morning if you can. Any later and you risk missing out on the gift cards as they’ll often sell out on the first day, at least for stores in the major cities.

Per reports on OzBargain, Vanilla Visa gift cards can apparently no longer be used with DEFT or Sniip. PayPal was also blocked but now appears to be working again. Payments to the ATO continue to work as well, though it can take 30 minutes or more before your Vanilla Visa card is useable.

The best value card

As you can see, the best Vanilla Visa gift card to buy in this offer is the $25-500 variable card loaded with $500. The $50 and $100 cards only earn a fraction of the points but still carry rather large purchase fees.

  1. Thanks for this; so I can buy 2 x$500 (Variable) everyday for the qualifying period? That would be great!

      1. Hi can these cards be used wherever they accept Visa or Mastercard and how do you use them when you go to pay. I
Which account do you choose and do they have a PIN number and is that on the card please?
        Thanking you

      2. You can use them almost anywhere but there are some limitations that I’ve outlined in the article. You select Credit when using them. These cards don’t have a PIN so you just press OK when prompted to enter one. Some retailers (e.g. Coles) will want you to sign whilst others (e.g. Woolworths) will waive this requirement.

  2. Does anyone know if these can be used at the ATO, and if they code as Visa Debit or Visa Credit.

    1. Vanilla Visa cards have long been known to work at the ATO but it’s possible that has since changed. The ATO surcharge for them would be 0.4% as Visa Domestic Debit cards.

  3. Will it be possible to use these cards to purchase other gift cards in future promotions? e.g When 20 x points offers come up for Airbnb?

    1. Most likely yes but I’d recommend having a backup use for the Visa gift cards in case it no longer works when you go to do it.

    1. Some purchases, yes. The issue with using prepaid Visa or Mastercards online is that you are often unable to split payments across multiple cards. These work best when used for purchases where you can specify the amount you want to pay (e.g. exactly $500.00).

A common workaround is to use these Visa cards to purchase a particular retailer’s own gift cards as you can often use multiple of those. However, this won’t be possible in every case.

  4. Thanks for the heads up! Can I use these to pay things like gas and electricity bills on bpay?

    1. It depends on which company you’re paying as they don’t all use the same payment systems or rules. A lot of people do use them for that purpose, though.

  5. I bought the card today before the date of promotion, so you know if can I still get the points on the 26th?

    1. Call or message Everyday Rewards and they’ll probably manually credit you the points if it’s your first time making a mistake like this. Then when the promotion begins you should be able to go back and buy more.

  6. I’ve never bought gift card before for boosting my Qantas points. Does anyone know if I’d be able to use these cards to pay for the purchase of foreign currency?

  7. Do you know if I can buy $1000 each day of these gift card and re-use the same $1000 to buy another $1000 just to get the points?

If it be possible do you think it worth based in the card fee?

    Thanks!

You can’t use one Visa gift card to buy another at Woolworths. It’d be nice if it were that easy!

do you think it worth based in the card fee?

As long as you have something to spend them on, I think the $500 cards are great value considering you earn 2,500 Qantas points (or $25 in Everyday Rewards Dollars) for just $7.95 in fees.

    1. You could but I’d suggest buying Apple gift cards or the Ultimate or TCN gift cards that work at JB Hi-Fi when they earn 20x points. There’s one on right now but it ends today so you wouldn’t be able to buy $2,000 worth of cards due to the daily purchase limit. Those sorts of offers happen every month or so on average.

  8. Hello, Editor. Where do the terms state about buying variable gift cards in a single transaction? I had a look at the catalogue and couldn’t find it. “For the variable card where you choose the amount to load, limit of 2 cards per day per Rewards Member.” There is no mention of two variable cards in a single transaction? Thanking you.

    1. Good spot! It appears that they’ve finally done away with the silly “one transaction per day” rule. Interestingly, they haven’t actually been enforcing this requirement for a while but until now it has always been mentioned in the terms and conditions so I included it out of habit. I’ve updated the article. Thanks.

  11. I have tried to use this to buy the Bunnings gift card on qantas marketplace but am getting an error the payment is declining. The gift card definitely has the full amount available. Any ideas?

    1. It may just be the case that Qantas Marketplace don’t accept the Vanilla Visa cards but I know that with the Vanilla Mastercards you could only use them on Qantas Marketplace when placing smaller orders (e.g. $50, $100 etc) so that may be worth a try.

  13. I accidently brought the vanilla Mastercard today instead of the visa so I didn’t get the points. Do you think it’s possible to buy the vanilla visa with the vanilla Mastercard? Thanks

    Reply

    1. You can’t buy the Visa with the Mastercard but you can call or message Everyday Rewards and there’s a decent chance they’ll manually credit you the points as a once off gesture of good will.

      Reply

    1. Most likely yes, provided of course that the gift cards you’re buying aren’t also prepaid Visa/Eftpos/Mastercard gift cards or any of the cards issued by Woolworths themselves.

  14. Can you use vanilla card with everyday rewards card linked with everyday extras to get more points? As I do not know if I will miss out on buying a gift card before the end of this month. End of gift card offer is 2nd July. And that then gives me time to think of a big shopping list for later in July.

    Reply

    1. Yes. You can use a Visa gift card as your payment method and still earn Everyday Rewards points when shopping at Woolworths, Big W etc. If you have access to discounted Woolworths gift cards through your health fund, union or other memberships, you could even use these Visa cards to buy those discounted cards on the Woolworths Gift Cards website via PayPal.

  16. Just used one of these to pay for my rates in the ACT. Appears to have gone through, can see it as a pending transition with the full amount specified.
